Today Idea Cellular launched a new smartphone Idea Ivory in Indian market at Rs. 7390. It’s a 3G smartphone with 3.5 inch display, 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, dual sim compatibility and more. Most of the features of the handset are pretty ordinary. Still the price of the handset is Rs. 7390. This is ridiculous as you get a 4.0 inch smartphone with similar specs in less than Rs. 6000. Consider Micromax A87 Ninja 4.0 or Karbonn A15 and both have bigger display and similar specs.
Indian carriers must consider the fact. Nowadays 1 GHz processor, I guess it’s Cortex A5 based SoC and 512 MB RAM do not look impressive. You can’t play too many games in it. GPU is unknown but it’s definitely not among the best ones in market. Internal 4 GB storage leaves approx 2 GB free for user. Micro SD card slot is there for storage expansion. It sports 3.2 MP camera is there as well. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform Idea Ivory is over-priced for sure.

Idea Ivory is the fifth smartphone launched by the company. I am not sure who is the actual manufacturer of the device. It’s either Huawei or ZTE. Although Idea Cellular is claiming they have already sold more than 2.25 lakh smartphones it doesn’t look too impressive. In contrast to the requirement in Indian market this figure is not at all impressive. When the handset is bundled by a carrier it must be sold in cheaper price. Otherwise, why people would be interested in buying the device. However, you must check out full specs of the handset.
In the meanwhile you must check out what Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Idea Cellular has told about this launch-“Devices play an important role in enhancing service experience for the user, and has been a key component of Idea’s 3G growth strategy. Idea Ivory, based on the latest Android 4.0 OS, and all other previous 3G smartphones, have been affordable priced to propagate data usage amongst mass consumers.”

I want to purchase this ivory mobile, but afraid of purchasing self branded Idea mobiles since they might be manufactured by some lesser known companies.
Possibly Idea Ivory is manufactured by ZTE. I am not sure though! But if it’s ZTE then it’s not at all a small brand. Currently it’s in the list os top 5 smartphone manufacturers.
