Micromax A116 Canvas HD vs Xolo A1000: Finally, we have one real good competitor of Canvas HD. I have already mentioned in less than 15k price tag Micromax Canvas HD is the best phablet. After going through the specs of Xolo A1000 I don’t think it’s going to be a real threat for Canvas HD. Spec wise both these handsets are identical apart from two completely new processor architecture and few other differences.
On one hand we have Xolo A1000 that is using MediaTek MT6577 SoC that couples two 1 GHz Cortex A9 application processor and PowerVR SGX531 GPU. On the other hand, we have Micromax A116 Canvas HD that is using brand new ARM Cortex A7 based MediaTek MT6589 SoC. Cortex A7 is yet to be based in real life but ARM is claiming multi-core Cortex A7 can match up with modern day high-end smartphones. At the same time Cortex A7 considerably save energy up to 5 times which certainly means you do not need to worry to much about smaller battery size.
One more thing in addition, PowerVR SGX544 is recognized as better GPU as compared to PowerVR SGX531 that is used in Xolo A1000. You can expect better gaming compatibility from Canvas HD. Both are using 1 GB RAM. Micromax A116 Canvas HD is better in this segment. Isn’t it? Both these handsets are built on Android 4.1 JellyBean with integrated Google Now support.
Although in naked eye you see both these 5 inch phablets use HD IPS LCD display panel but OGS (one glass solution) is used in Xolo A1000 which considerably reduce the thickness of the handset. The result is in front of you. Xolo A1000 is measured to have a dimension of 8.8 mm while Micromax A116 Canvas HD is measured to have a thickness of 10.7 mm. Along with accelerometer and proximity sensor there is ambient light sensor in both handset. It’s very much needed especially when the display size is as big as 5 inch.
Xolo A1000 has better camera unit. It has a BSI (back-lite illuminated) sensor. In low-light A1000 can shoot better image. In day-light you may not see the difference as both sport 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, HDR, digital zoom, burst mode, panorama mode etc. Canvas HD has better front camera but it’s not anything groundbreaking. Both these handsets can record 720p HD video. Micromax Canvas HD records video in .3gp format. Xolo A1000 video file format is unknown.
In connectivity segment Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi with hotspot tethering and micro USB are there. I was expecting Wi-Fi Direct and MHL in Micromax A116 Canvas HD. Unfortunately, these features are absent in Canvas HD. Xolo A1000 is also missing these connectivity features. High speed HSPA+ radio is present in Canvas HD that can download data at up to 42 Mbps speed while Xolo A1000 supports up to 7.2 Mbps HSDPA speed. Micromax Canvas 2 or other devices that are using MediaTek MT6577 all support 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA speed.
ROM size is 4 GB in both handset. Micro SD card slot is there in both handsets. Battery does not make too much of difference here. Canvas HD’s 2000 mAH is almost equal to Xolo A1000′s 2100 mAH battery.
Xolo A1000 comes with a dedicated camera key. Volume rockers are power buttons are common hard buttons in both handset.

Micromax A116 Canvas HD vs Xolo A1000: Final Words
Finally, I can say Micromax A116 Canvas HD is better choice. Xolo A1000 looks most impressive and boasts slimmest profile but at the end of the day I thing Canvas HD is one step ahead just because of advanced processor and GPU. Xolo has better camera, no doubt about that. Battery life does not make too much of difference here. For hardware gamers Micromax Canvas HD is better choice but casual gamers may consider Xolo A1000. There is no difference in price at all.
