NVIDIA Tegra 4 is now officially unveiled. It’s predecessor failed in market just because of excessive drainage of battery life. HTC used the chipset in flagship One X. LG flagship Optimus 4X HD was launched with the same SoC but it was never used extensively. However, this time with Tegra 4 NVIDIA is is expecting things to change. Specs certainly look impressive. None of the major smartphone manufacturers have claimed anything in this regard. However, we may hear something soon.
Well, the SoC couples quad ARM Cortex A15 CPU cores while there are 72 custom GeForce GPU cores that is 6 times more than the Tegra 3. Cortex A15 is certainly the fastest processor ARM have announced. Samsung is working on it in upcoming Exynos 5440. Google Nexus 10 is running dual Cortex A15 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz. Possibly, Samsung is aiming at 2.0 GHz mark in upcoming Galaxy S4.
NVIDIA Tegra 4 Chipset- 4 Cortex A15 Processor + 72 GeForce GPU + 2nd Generation PowerSaver Core
Well, you can see NVIDIA is mainly focusing on gaming and other multimedia features with brand new Tegra 4. GPU is super-powerful, 72 GeForce cores are bundled together. It supports whooping 4000×2000 pixels resolution which is more than full HD 1080×1920 pixels resolution. To alleviate battery drainage issue NVIDIA has supplied second generation Powersaver Core in this chipset. The first generation was introduced in Tegra 3. Now the 2nd gen is expected to improve battery life to a great extent.
NVIDIA Tegra 4 supports Computational Photography architecture that significantly improves camera quality. Unfortunately, Tegra 4 lacks 4G LTE radio. Third party LTE modem or NVIDIA Icera i500 chipset is required for LTE connectivity. In all respect, NVIDIA Tegra 4 looks brilliant. It might be officially unveiled in CES 2013.
