Galaxy Grand was expected to ship with Exynos 4210 inside, the same SoC that is used in Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note. Somehow lack of supply forced Samsung to use Broadcomm BCM28155 SoC that couples dual Cortex A9 cores clocked at 1.2 GHz and VideoCore IV GPU. We have seen that Micromax Canvas 2 can run all HD games with dual core processor and 512 MB RAM. This is something to watch out for! Both sport 5 inch display. But display resolution and ppi makes the difference here. First one supports WVGA 480×800 pixels resolution while Micromax A116 Canvas HD supports HD 720×1280 pixels resolution. Since display size is same in both handsets higher resolution simply means higher pixel density in display.
That’s the reason Canvas HD boasts 294 ppi while Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos has mere 186 ppi. Also the IPS LCD display panel of Canvas HD gets an edge of TN LCD display panel of Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos. The best part of IPS LCD is wide viewing angles. Even if Canvas HD records full HD video you must not compare it with Galaxy Grand. It’s simply better! Also 2 MP front camera of Galaxy Grand is better than VGA front camera of Canvas HD.

Although you see both these phablets are packed with 2100 mAh battery Galaxy Grand will result in better battery backup. Less CPU cores simply means less power consumption. Although MediaTek is claiming ARM Cortex A7 is the most power efficient application processor core but I do not think with 2100 mAh battery the phablet can satisfy you. It would have been better with at least 2500 mAh battery.

According to Phone Arena the Galaxy Grand and Grand Duos uses a Broadcom’s BCM28155 SoC and VideoCore IV GPU inside the hood, which apparently is not good as POWERVR544 GPU, if you could please cross check it to make sure, thanks
Thanks for figuring it out. Previously, it was rumored to run Exynos 4210. Updated the post. You are right, Canvas HD now looks better than Galaxy Grand. Exynos 4210 would have made a world of difference in results but Broadcomm may not be that powerful in real time use.
Thanks for the confirmation, i don’t think it supports DLNA out of the box, but i expect it record and play 1080p videos. By the way many people have found issues with Canvas 2, handset not working after 3 months, freeze or even heating related symptoms, I hope it doesn’t seeks the same.
i think canvas hd slightly better than grand interms of display and performance, because once canvas hd got mediatek quadcore chipset that we expect the performance as in one x or any high end quad, but its not powerful as it and interm of display is great but grand too have good display , not better. So i personaly think instead of wasting 15k one should buy grand with brand trust nd lieblitiy at 20K.
Display quality of Canvas HD is way better than Galaxy Grand. Soon I will add a new unit on display segment.

Thanks for the confirmation, I would like to know if there is DLNA support for Canvas A116 HD ? I hope it does records and plays 1080p videos being a quad core its an obvious guess. Canvas 2 had many issues, relating from device not working after a while, freeze/ battery drain. I expect Micromax has learned from its flaws and fixed those issues as such if any.
@Deep Possibly DLNA is not there. MT6589 supports DLNA but it needs to be activated from the chip to work. I am not sure though! In most Canvas 2 handsets HD 720p is running but sound goes off frequently. I am afraid in case of full HD this will happen in Canvas HD. Some where I have gone though that free RAM in Canvas HD is less than 512 MB which is less than half of total RAM. Closing unwanted application will increase free RAM, that’s for sure but I am not sure how much RAM it frees up at the end. I am also wondering how a 2100 mAH battery with 5 inch display can last for more than 4 hrs when you have 3G on. Canvas 2 is marketed with 2000 mAh battery. But the backup is terrible. It seems it’s just like a 1000 mAh battery. Now 2 more cores are added but battery is increased slightly. I do not think battery is something to cheer for. IMO most of these handsets come up with poorly optimized hardware. As a result of that battery draining is faster. I guess the trend will continue in Canvas HD as well. I am sure with similar battery size Samsung Galaxy Grand would deliver better backup. Forget about full HD video recording. Max it can record HD. Canvas 2 records VGA video 480×640 pixels at 30 fps and format is .3gp.

What are the reliability ratings of the Canvas 2 from customers? how many visits to the service centre?
Also, you say Bluetooth is V4 and the phone is Dual standby. Did you cook that info up?
No Bluetooth is actually, v3.0 with A2DP. Thanks for pointing it out. However, it’s dual sim and standby. I haven’t cooked it. It’s the feature of the handset.
I was waiting for Nokia Lumia 620 from past 1 month but now these 2 handsets are taking me over ! No doubt, Micromax a116 is better than Samusng grand duos when it comes to features. But i am still confused as to which mobile is should go for, mainly out of these 2. Can u please help me? (Budget max. 22k)
I don’t much care about features in deep, just need normal features like: Speed, Good touchscreen, should play all types of games, not best but good camera, definitely should not hang much or restart, good sound quality & mainly atleaset could be used for long term.
As micromax is still trying to gain market & also read at many places or in comments that it has Battery problem, heating problem, lacks in customer service blah blah, Hence i am thinking of buying Samsung Duos on the safer side. You can go with Nokia Lumia 620; specs are good. But for easy and effortless user experience Android is still better choice. IMO battery problem will be there. It’s 2100 mAh battery and the handset is using quad core processor. Previously, with similar battery size Canvas 2 disappointed most of the buyers. However, apart from brand and camera segment it beats Galaxy Grand. But Samsung over Micromax, still plays vital role especially when the buyer can spend much.
Canvas A110 do shoot at 720p and records the same at mp4 format when when settings are set to Fine quality right ? The MT6589 delivers premium multimedia capabilities with extremely low power consumption, so i hope battery back up wouldn’t be that much of an issue if its properly optimized for the Canvas HD
No HD even when all settings are set to high. Also no .mp4 recording. Two set of Canvas 2 devices are launched, one set support high end features and other set can’t. Even HD playback is not at all smooth. Let’s hope Canvas 2 battery is satisfactory.

Yes, you can purchase Micromax A116 Canvas HD. It comes with high speed 3G HSPA+ modem. It’s not necessary you need 3G to access GPS system. But it’s better to use 3G for faster data download. Display size of 5 inch is excellent for movie watching while you are on the go. Overall user experience will be excellent with Canvas HD. Facebook is pre-installed along with Google Maps. Rest of the useful apps can be downloaded from Google Play.

samsung grand has a good nos of feature which u cannot get like smart eye,multi window and many more ….i can agree it display is not good then a116 …but in term of resale value and service samsung is way ahead of micromax….u cannot get much camera clarity in a116 then grand is having……grand battery is good … my brother is having samsung grand and i m having mircomax a116 …..i hve compare both the handsets …i thing samsung rocks anytime ….in terms of much loaded features ..!!!!!

Have you recently installed any app? Please check that first. Backup all data and try factory reset before you decide to drop it to service center. Temple Run 2 should run properly.
samsung galaxy grand has ~185 pixel density stretched over a 5 inched screen which is very less when compared with xperia tipo 3.2inch which has ~180 pixel density.So i guess there’s a drawback of clarity in galaxy grand

Grand can’t even play buggy beach blitz…..but it can play all other so called high graphic games ….but not a simple game like this…..but again , even Sony xperia tippo does buggy beach without any lag….. Check it out….my intention is only to help anyone willing to buy these handsets
It’s because of the GPU. VideoCore IV is a new GPU. BBB is not optimized for this GPU.

Unfortunately it doesn’t support OTG. May be in next firmware Samsung will enable that option. Till then you have no way to use it. Would you please hint at the wrongly written point. I guess you are using it, so any info would be useful for others.
