The Tizen 2.0 OS is based on the Linux operating system similar to Android. Tizen OS is stated to be backed by many cellphone carriers who want a successful market share against the likes of Google and Apple. Sprint Nextel Corp., Orange are members of the Tizen Association. Other major backers include Intel and Huawei. Other companies on the Tizen Association board of directors are Fujitsu, KT, NEC, NTT Docomo, Panasonic, SK Telecom and Vodafone. Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has already committed to launching Tizen phones and wants to be the first to launch. Though pricing details remain blurry as of now, but, what I can guess Tizen OS phones would witness high end pricing, upwards of $300.

Tizen is likely to compete with other newly launched operating systems like the Firefox OS, Sailfish OS etc. Microsoft’s Windows Phone and much hyped BlackBerry 10 operating systems are fairly new in the market and not doing well. These are not open source operating system either. You can safely assume Tizen to explore more as it’s been backed up by several tech giants and of course open source nature makes it even more competitive.
Tizen OS is likely to make its debut at the end of year by the likes of Samsung and Intel’s Processor is most likely to go on with. Do u think its better than Firefox OS as its Linux based? In this years Mobile World Congress couple of Firefox OS driven smartphones are introduced viz. ZTE Open, Alcatel One Touch Fire. But hardware is horrible if you compare these smartphones with a modern droid. Do you think Tizen is going to have such low-config phones? Would u love to have this OS in your smartphone?
