Xolo X500 vs Xolo A500 Specs Comparison

Xolo X500 vs Xolo A500: We have two Xolo branded handsets with us. Both are running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Most importantly both are cost effective, in fact Xolo A500 is the cheapest smartphone with dual core processor, dual camera and dual sim support. Xolo X500 is yet to make its way to Indian market. It’s the first smartphone designed by Intel with brand new Atom Z2420 Lexington platform. Lava is the manufacturer of Xolo A500 while X500 is designed by Intel and developed by Gigabyte (possibly). So apart from marketing in India Lava is not at all related to this product.

Intel dominates the PC market but in smartphone segment it’s yet to settle. Lexington may help the veteran chip maker to cement their spot. Qualcomm still dominates the smartphone market but in less than Rs 10000 market Snapdragon S4 fails to impress user requirements. MediaTek with its MT6577 dual core is doing reasonably good job along with single core MT6515 and MT6575. But Intel Atom Z2420 blows everything off with its 1.2 GHz processor and PowerVR Series 5 400 MHz GPU.

Xolo X500 vs Xolo A500

Intel have designed this chip for emerging markets like Indian subcontinent, South America and Africa. Within next few days the droid will be made available in Indian market. Let’s take a look at the differences between Xolo X500 vs Xolo A500 smartphones-

Xolo X500 vs Xolo A500

1. Operating System

Both these Xolo handsets are built on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform. Do not expect JellyBean upgrade in future.

2. Processor & Performance

Here you will see significant difference between these handsets. Xolo X500 is a product from Intel that will be marketed in India by Lava International. On the other hand, Xolo A500 is a product of Lava International. Intel is using brand new Atom Z2420 Lexington chipset here that couples 1.2 GHz processor with hyper-threading and PowerVR SGX540 GPU. In contrast to that Xolo A500 sports Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play MSM8225 chipset that is using outdated dual Cortex A5 and Aderno 203 GPU. There is no doubt Xolo X500 delivers better performance. In AnTuTu benchmark test X500 blows everything out of the competition. It scores massive 12365 which is even better than Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy S2.  You can safely assume X500 is better. Also the RAM is just 512 MB in both devices it does not make any difference at all in the performance of Xolo X500.

3. Display

Quite surprisingly Intel have decided to ship Z2420 powered handsets with 3.5 inch display size and HVGA resolution. It’s just poor. At least 4 inch display would have been ideal. On the other side, Xolo A500 sports 4 inch WVGA resolution. Display quality of A500 is better.

4. Entertainment

Be it gaming or HD movie watching or anything Xolo X500 is the winner here. It plays full HD 1080p video while most low-cost handsets fail to play full HD. This is the biggest advantage of this handset. Also the gaming compatibility is excellent. In contrast to Aderno 203 GPU PowerVR SGX540 GPU is way better. You can expect best gaming experience in less than 10k price segment. X500 even promises better gaming performance as compared to Micromax A110 Canvas 2.

5. Camera

Both Xolo A500 and Xolo X500 sports 5 MP rear facing camera and VGA front camera. X500 records full HD 1080p video while A500 might struggle to record 720p HD video. The burst mode feature of A500 is best in this price segment. But rear camera lacks LED flash. Don’t be too disappointed as without BSI sensor none of these low-cost handsets can take good images in low-light. Therefore, with LED flash Xolo A500 and without LED flash Xolo X500 does not make much difference. But it’s better to have one. So it’s a negative point of X500. Possibly, there is no front camera in X500 which is seriously disappointing.

6. Battery

Both these droids equip 1500 mAh battery. Since the display size of X500 is slightly small it will deliver more hours of usage.

Final Conclusion: Xolo X500 vs Xolo A500

You have seen Xolo X500 vs Xolo A500 comparison yields result in favor of X500. Smaller display might be an issue to most of the buyers but in all respect it’s better and better by a fair margin. Xolo A500 costs Rs 6999 while Xolo X500 costs Rs 8999. So there is some difference in price as well. You have to consider that also. But Xolo X500 is brilliant.

  1. hey.. can you confirm the front facing cam n the X500?

    • Possibly front camera is absent. The rear camera lacks LED flash. It’s not necessary as none of these low-cost handsets can take sharp images in low-light. Just performance is high class as you can see from AuTuTu benchmark score.

  2. Can i play games like nfs most wanted,nova 3 in xolo a500 ?

    • Yes you can play, The GPU is too powerful and deliver best possible result. But NFS or Nova 3 are huge games. There should not be any issues IMO. We wait to wait till it hits the market.

  3. Oh Manidip u r the god of gadgets !

  4. Kindly clarify xolo a500 fairs against karbon a21 and MMX canvas 2 in terms of performance. I believe karbon and xolo use the same chipset..

    • You are right. MMX A110 is better in terms of performance.

      • I have used karbon a21 and was satisfied with it. Just wondering if xolo a500 will have the same performance. Any comments?

        • Xolo A500 is couple of thousands cheaper than Karbonn A21. Although both have same hardware there will be difference in performance like you can’t play HD 720p video in A500, camera is not as good as A21. Display resolution is WVGA as compared to qHD, ppi is low and color rendering will not be as impressive as Karbonn A21.

  9. hi, i cant root my xolo a500 without usb driver, any idea guys??

  10. Hi Boss,
    Could you help me
I have bought Xolo A500 model and have some concerns :
    a) I can see both the signals displayed on the screen, but cannot identify which signal is for which provider
    b) While using I can feel the phone is getting heated, is there any way I can reduce the heat and make it as normal

    • Under SIM management you will seethe option to change color of both the signal meters. By default both are of different color. Anyway, you may make necessary changes from there.

You can’t do anything with heating. This is a problem with most of the Android smartphones. But if it’s getting excessive heating contact customer service.
